How to Get Your First Agency Client (5 Outreach Templates That Actually Book Calls)

Five outreach scripts — cold email, LinkedIn DM, voice note, walk-in, paid landing page — for new agency owners with zero case studies.

The first client is the hardest. You have no case studies, no testimonials, and no track record. Everything you read about agency growth assumes you are already past this stage. This post is about getting past it.

Five scripts. One per channel. Pick the channel that fits your niche.

Before the scripts: the one rule

Generic outreach gets generic replies, which means none. Every message you send must include one specific detail that proves you looked at the prospect. Their address. Their menu item. The headline of their last Instagram post. The misspelling on their About page.

This is the difference between a 2% reply rate and a 14% reply rate.

Script 1 — Cold email (best for dental, lawyers, accountants, financial advisors)

Subject: quick question about [their service]

Hi [first name],

I was on [website URL] looking for [thing relevant to their niche — a dentist's appointment booking, a lawyer's intake form] and noticed [one specific detail you observed].

I help [niche] owners book [outcome — e.g., 30 net-new dental patients] per month using a system I run for clients at [your-site].

Worth a 15-minute call to see if it fits your practice?

— [name]

Why it works: short, niche-specific, evidence of homework, clear ask. Send 100/day. Expect 3–8 replies, 1–3 booked calls.

Script 2 — LinkedIn DM (best for mortgage brokers, real estate agents, financial advisors)

[first name] — saw your post about [topic from their feed].

Curious — is [related pain point] something you'd want to fix this quarter?

I run a small system for [niche] that books [outcome]. If it's a no, no worries. If it's a maybe, happy to send a 90-sec Loom.

Why it works: references their content (proof of attention), asks a binary question, offers a frictionless next step. 20 personalized DMs/day. Expect 3–5 replies.

Script 3 — Voice DM (best for gyms, med spas, salons, restaurants)

A 30-second voice note on Instagram DM, recorded as you walk past their location:

"Hi [owner name], I'm [your name] — I was walking past your spot on [street name] today and noticed [specific thing — e.g., your new patio setup is killer]. I run a small system for [niche] owners that brings in [outcome]. If it sounds interesting, I'd love to send you a 90-second video showing how it works. Either way, all the best."

Why it works: voice cuts through, walking-past detail feels personal, no hard ask. Aim for 10 per day. Expect 3–5 replies.

Script 4 — In-person walk-in (best for HVAC, plumbers, electricians, roofers, auto repair)

You walk in. You ask for the owner. If they are not there, you ask when they will be. You come back. You hand them this 1-page printout:

[NICHE] OWNER —

I help [niche] owners in [city] book [outcome] per month.
My system handles missed calls, returns voicemails for you, books quotes into your calendar.

Setup fee: $1,500.
Monthly: $1,000.
30-day money-back guarantee.

If interested, text me at [phone] or scan this QR code.

— [name]

Why it works: in-person creates an obligation reflex; the printout means they can think about it after you leave; the QR code drops them into your booking calendar.

Walk into 5 businesses per day. Expect 1–2 bookings.

Script 5 — Paid ads to a niche landing page

When your warm network is tapped and cold outreach feels slow, $50/day on Meta or Google to a niche-specific landing page works. The landing page is one specific offer for one specific niche:

"Dental practices in [city] — book 30 new patients in the next 60 days. Pay only after we deliver the first 10. Apply below."

You will spend $30–$80 per booked discovery call this way. Worth it after you have validated the offer with cold outreach.

What to do after they reply

A reply is not a sale. Reply → discovery call → proposal → close.

1

Reply within 2 hours

Send a calendar link immediately. Speed wins. If they ghosted between Tuesday and Friday, follow up Monday.

2

Run a 15-minute discovery call, not a pitch

Ask: what is your biggest constraint right now? Who is your best customer? What have you tried before that didn't work? Then say 'I'll send a proposal by tomorrow.'

3

Send a one-page proposal

One page. Their problem in their words. Your offer with a name and a price. Setup fee + monthly. 30-day money-back guarantee. Two scenarios: 'I want this' and 'I have questions.'

4

Follow up at days 1, 3, 7, 14, 30

60% of agency deals close after the 3rd follow-up. Do not stop at one.

The first-client benchmark

If you are doing 100 cold emails/day or 20 LinkedIn DMs/day or 5 walk-ins/day consistently, you will land your first paying client within 30 days. If you have not, the script is not broken — your activity is.

What to do once you have 1 client

Send 50 case-study emails the day after you sign client #1, with the subject "From 0 to first client in [X] days." Your first 30 days of evidence is your most valuable outreach asset. Use it before it fades.
